45th Annual Pocatello Pump

The longest running climbing competition in America. Started in 1981, the event serves as a fundraiser for the Climber’s Scholarship. The Climber's Scholarship benefits students that participate in The Pump. 

The Pocatello Pump is a top rope climbing competition that has gained a reputation for being the friendliest competition in the nation. The Pump offers experiences for climbers of all abilities.

For entrants in the categories named Joshua Tree (5.8-5.12), City of Rocks (5.11 - 5.12), Shawangunks (5.10 - 5.11), Smith Rocks (5.6 - 5.9) and Massacre Rocks (non-competitive), climbing starts at 9:00 am at Ross Park Sunny Side. Registration begins at 8:00 am. Directions are in the link below.

Registration begins at noon at Ross Park Shady Side. Directions are in the link below.

Climbing Categories

Climbers may register for any one category. Choose an appropriate category for yourself. The Pump suggests you choose a category that reflects the grade of climb you would go out and climb on any given day. Points are awarded according to the difficulty of the climb. Climbers can climb any route but there is a two fall limit. 

Joshua Tree category: Climbs one 90 minute heat on Sunnyside and one 60 minute heat on Shadyside (5.8-5.12).

Sunny Side categories: City of Rocks (5.11 - 5.12), Shawangunks (5.10 - 5.11), Smith Rocks (5.6 - 5.9) and Massacre Rocks (non-competitive). 

Shady Side categories: Red Rocks (5.10 - 5.11), Seneca Rocks (5.5 - 5.9), Big Cottonwood Canyon (11 - 15 year old), Little Cottonwood Canyon (10 and under), Massacre Rocks (non-competitive), and Everest (all ability climbers)   

ISU Ambush

September 27, 2025
10 AM, Bartz Field 

The Ambush is a high-energy team obstacle race designed to challenge your strength, speed, and teamwork. An “ambush” is a group of tigers—so gather your crew of 4–7 people and take on the course together in true Bengal spirit!

While this is primarily a team event, limited spots are available for individual entrants ready to take on the challenge solo. Get ready to run, climb, crawl, and conquer in this unforgettable adventure.

OAC

The OAC is a university based, outdoor education and recreation program offering outdoor recreation adventure trips, classes/workshops, and outdoor informational services. We provide outdoor equipment rentals and repairs. Our library contains one of the region’s most extensive collections of outdoor resources: books, magazines, periodicals, videos and DVDs, equipment catalogs, and more than 1,000 US Topographical maps of the Intermountain West.
